  • Biobehavioral Pain Lab at CHLA — Summer Internship

    The 10-week full time summer internship at Children's Hospital Los Angeles is focused on the research of integrative medicine (IM) practices. The primary objective is to learn and conduct biopsychosocial evaluation of IM practices for pediatric patients with pain and palliative care needs. The summer intern will learn about research methods, design, and basic statistical analytic principles. The intern will participate in all lab activities including but not limited to learning about the institutional review board activities, professionalism, working within an interdisciplinary medical team in a pediatric medical center, digital therapeutics, educational seminars, and a variety of other scientifically-oriented activities associated with academic medicine. A stipend will be awarded in two parts provided completion of internship term.

    Qualifications:

    • Reliable and motivated students interested in pediatric and/or clinical research

    • Experience working with children

    • Strong communication and writing skills

    • Students on a pre-med or pre-psychology track are encouraged but not required

    Responsibilities include:

    • Patient facing recruitment, consenting, and enrolling families to participate in research

    • Conducting literature searches and reviews

    • Data entry and data collection

    • Preparing and submitting abstracts for scientific conferences and manuscripts

    • Learning about conducting scientific research methods

    • Providing additional assistance to research staff on studies outside of the primary integrative medicine study

    • Lab oriented administrative tasks

    • Growth and development in ethics and professionalism
